Press Pergola

Just Opened London

The word ‘rooftop’ has become synonymous with summer in London.  And the open air street food market has been given a west London spin with Pergola on the Roof. It’s a dining concept atop the ex-BBC Television Centre in Shepherd’s Bush with sharing tables and sharing plates. Any idea what a pergola is? Us neither…We had to Google it.

Pergola on the Roof is the newest brainchild of those behind the likes of Feast and Market Yard. It will bring the Mediterranean to London. Ready to seat 400, via both bookings and walk-ins, bespoke menus have been created by some of London’s finest roaming kitchens. Think wild nose-to-tail dishes from King’s Road restaurant Rabbit; French-style rotisserie from Islington’s Le Coq; meaty burgers from Patty & Bun and Italian-come-Spanish inspired tapas from Salt Yard.

Like the Hawker markets of Singapore, guests are encouraged to share tables, then purchase dishes as they please before returning to sit down and share between friends – and beneath the dangling foliage by which this installment takes its name. There are five giant day beds to recline on and mural-covered walls to get lost in while you drink cocktails in a rooftopy, post dinnery haze.

Unlike most of London’s summer pop-ups which roll on until late September, Pergola will no longer be on the Roof come August 30th – here’s one to pen in now.
